Chelsea are said to be interested in signing Aston Villa centre-back Ezri Konsa, with Enzo Maresca seeking to strengthen the Blues’ defence ahead of next term. The 27-year-old has been identified as a possible target, with former Manchester United scout Mick Brown revealing Chelsea have been heavily tracking Konsa.
Konsa has been a regular in Aston Villa’s first team defense, having appeared in 32 Premier League games during the 2024/25 season and scored one goal. His performances have also seen him earn 11 caps for the England national team since his debut in March 2024.
With Chelsea looking to reinforce their team, Konsa’s experience and dependability see him as a likely candidate to reinforce their backline. But with his contract at Aston Villa expiring in 2028, bringing him on board could cost them an astronomical figure.
What Mick Brown Said About Chelsea’s Interest in Konsa
Mick Brown said, in an interview with Football Insider:
“Chelsea certainly view Ezri Konsa as an option. He has progressed his game further in the last couple of years than I ever thought he would. I still think he makes some mistakes, but he’s done an exceptional job to make himself a regular both for Aston Villa and recently for England.
“He’s made the very best of the assets he has got. Chelsea have got a problem at centre-back and they’re prepared to bring somebody in. That’s going to be one of their priorities in the transfer window.”
The former scout concluded:
“They need a solid option at the back who is going to give them consistent performances, and they’ve been looking at Konsa on a number of occasions. So it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see them make a move for him.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea are expected to overhaul their defense, with players like Trevoh Chalobah set to leave the club. Konsa, if he is signed, will be expected to take on a role in the starting lineup.
