Ligue 1 club Nice are keen on signing Fikayo Tomori on loan from Chelsea in January, according to The Sun.
The youngster was a fringe player for the Blues last season as he went on to make 15 Premier League appearances. However, he appears to have fallen down the pecking order this season following the arrival of Thiago Silva and given that Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen appear to be above him in the pecking order.
Tomori has a lot of potential
Even though his current situation is not ideal, it is well known that Tomori is a highly rated talent. He was handed his England debut by Gareth Southgate for a Euro 2020 qualification match against Kosovo in November 2019. The report added that Chelsea is not keen to sell Tomori but will send him on loan in order to gain more experience at the highest level.
A loan move could be beneficial to Tomori’s career growth. It will help him to get better as a player as well as to gain more confidence.
Whilst Brexit has made it complicated for English youngsters to secure moves to other European leagues, the process won’t be complicated for Tomori as he has an English national team cap and Premier League experience.
The report further added that there are clubs in the Premier League who are interested in signing Tomori, though the Blues will prefer not to loan the player out to a domestic club.
A loan move could be beneficial for Chelsea, as it could allow Tomori to continue growing as a player. Realistically Silva is only likely to play for the club for one or two seasons, given that he is in his late 30s. Tomori could be a ready made replacement for the Brazil international when he leaves the club.
