Chelsea are monitoring Sporting Lisbon winger Raphina, according to a report which was published by Football London. The report added that scouts from the West London club were seen in attendance during Lisbon’s 3-1 victory over Portimonese. The 22-year-old was the best player for his side during the game and helped them to secure victory.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was prevented from making any new signings this summer due to the Blues two window transfer ban and also had to make do without the services of Eden Hazard who left the club this summer to join Real Madrid. The Blues are currently not playing an attractive brand of football and will struggle to gain a top four finish or challenge for major trophies. They cannot, however, blame Lampard for the current situation.
The wing is one area that the Blues will need to bolster
If the Blues want to return to being a top side in the future, they will need to start identifying possible new wingers and spend big on bringing a few fresh faces to the squad next season. Not only were they unable to bring in a direct replacement for Hazard but wingers Willian and Pedro are now over 30 and are not the same players that they were a few years ago. Raphina is still a work in progress but has so far been impressive this season as he has scored two goals from three games.
The Blues must continue to keep tabs on Raphina. He was not a first-team regular for Sporting last season though he currently looks like he will be a first-team regular for his club this season. If he does manage to impress during the rest of the season, it will be worth it making a move for him during the next summer transfer window.
