Despite the UEFA Super Cup loss, Chelsea’s new boss, Frank Lampard, is still very optimistic about his players and the club.

The Blues put a very encouraging performance at the BJK Vodaphone Park in Istanbul, Turkey, and ended the regulation period with a 2-2 draw, before losing in the penalty shootout 5-4. They fell a bit short of having another silverware in just the club’s second competitive match under Lampard.

The new boss was awed by what he saw during the Super Cup and was proud of his squad after the 2-2 draw despite the humid condition. Lampard singled out  Jorginho who scored the equalizing goal after Tammy Abraham was fouled in the box. His defender, Emerson was also brilliant during the match and praised him for his stellar performance.

Christian Pulisic and midfielder N’Golo Kante were also impressive but the pair of Jorginho and Emerson totally awed the club legend. The Brazilian – Italian tandem exceeded his expectations and had great words for the two.

When asked who among his players stands out, he said: “It is a difficult one I think. I loved the performance of Jorginho for us and I loved the performance of Emerson, I thought they were both fantastic.

“And when you think of 120 minutes for two players who played on Sunday evening, so Liverpool were fresher than us, I thought they were leaders in the team.

“But I liked the performance of all of my players. Not one player was below par today. Everyone gave everything, the subs made an impact. So all, all of them.”

The newly installed manager had a tough start, losing to Manchester United 4-0 in their Premier League opener in Old Trafford. And with the experiences they have gained under his reign, the Blues are looking forward to new beginnings when they face Leicester City in their very own Stamford Bridge, Sunday.
