Chelsea suffered a less than impressive start to the 2019/20 Premier League season after having fallen to a 4-0 defeat against Manchester United last weekend. As expected, the result has led to the Blues being blasted by social media with the implications being that there are not really any positives for the Blues to take from the game.
There are actually positives which the Blues can take from the defeat
This is actually contrary to what actually happened during the game. Yes, the scoreline was not ideal but there are positives that the Blues can actually take from the game. They actually started the game as the more dominant side and looked the more likely of the two sides to score during the opening minutes before Marcus Rashford opened the scoring from the penalty spot during the 18th minute.
Contrary to what the score suggested, United were made to work hard for the win. David de Gea was forced to make a couple of excellent saves and United’s two new defenders Aaron Wan Bissaka and Harry Maguire were tested during the game.
Chelsea did look decent in midfield with Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic having decent games. The defence was unquestionably weak during the day with both Kurt Zouma and Andres Christensen looking sloppy.
Chelsea fans do not need to panic
There are brighter days ahead. Christian Pulisic did not start the game as did N’Golo Kante. Both players are expected to play a crucial role for the side this season. The midfield is bound to be significantly stronger once Kante returns to the starting xi. In addition to this, Kante is also likely to return to the defensive midfield role where he is one of the world’s best. He was not used in the role last season as Maurizio Sarri preferred to use him in a more advanced role while deploying Jorginho as his defensive midfielder.
