Liverpool and England legend John Barnes has urged Chelsea to sell Eden Hazard this summer. Hazard’s contract with the Blues is due to come to an end at the end of next season and he has stalled on signing a new one. This essentially means that if he does not sign a new deal soon and the club decides to keep him, they could stand to lose him for a bargain fee or in the worst case scenario for free next season.
Hazard has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid who failed to find a direct replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo last summer. Los Blancos have been poor by their standards this season and are set to undergo a squad overhaul this summer.
It will be a blow if Chelsea lose Hazard. The Belgian has been a key figure for the club over the years. This season, he has once again been arguably their best player as he has gone on to score 16 goals and provide 13 assists. However, the club will really have to move on if he wants to leave. If he wants to leave, they should grant him his wish and sell him this summer to ensure that they achieve maximum profits in a sale.
“I think they need to get away from Eden Hazard,” Barnes said as quoted by Goal.
“I think Liverpool, when Coutinho left, they were a much better team.
“I think Hazard influences the team so much that anywhere he goes you have to give him the ball.
“They’ve got good players and they can’t show their worth.”
