The Blues will take a trip to Austria this summer and face the Austrian champions RB Salzburg as part of their pre-season campaign.
Chelsea FC will face Salzburg at their 30,000-capacity stadium on Wednesday, July 31. The friendly game will give both sides top-level tune-up competition ahead of their respective 2019/20 seasons. The English Premier League will commence on Friday, August 10.
Before their trip to Austria, The Stamford Bridge side will face Kawasaki Frontale in Yokohama, Japan on July 19. The Blues will play the J. League champs before going to Saitama to meet Barcelona on July 23, for another tune-up game. This high profile friendly against the La Liga giants will surely delight thousands of Japanese football fans.
The historic match between these two European teams in Japan will allow local fans to witness two of the biggest teams in the world compete. They will play at the 64,000 capacity Saitama stadium, which has hosted a lot of games including the 2002 World Cup. Here, Brazil defeated Turkey in their semi-final match.
Chelsea’s Bruce Buck previously said that the club is excited to face Barca in a friendly game in Japan. He said that this would be an exciting event for Japanese football aficionados. Buck also said that Kawasaki Frontale will surely provide high-level competition.
The last time Chelsea were in Japan was during the FIFA Club World Cup. They lost to Corinthians of Brazil 1-0 to take the first runner up position.
Currently, the Blues are busy preparing for their upcoming Europa League final game against Arsenal. The two English clubs will face each other on May 29 at the Baku Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan. The game will also be the last for Chelsea’s talisman, Eden Hazard, who is set to leave Stamford Bridge for Real Madrid.
