Christian Pulisic is being backed for success at Chelsea by his US team-mate Weston McKennie. The 20-year-old was signed by the Blues in January and immediately loaned back to Dortmund until the end of the season. He will join the Stamford Bridge side on a full-time basis this summer and integrated into the first team next season.
With the Blues set to face a two-window transfer ban and with Eden Hazard looking likely to depart the club this summer, Pulisic may play a leading role for the Blues next season. Whether he is able to adapt to life in England remains to be seen. Fans have largely been mixed over his signing. Some feel that it was a good move. After all, Pulisic is already being regarded as the greatest footballing talent to have come out of the United States. In spite of his tender age, he already boasts more than 100 first-team senior appearances for Dortmund. Most players his age are only trying to work their way into first-team football.
Some do feel that with the right guidance, Pulisic is capable of maturing into one of the best players. Others are more critical and feel that the move was a bit premature and more for marketing purposes. Pulisic has not had the best of seasons which is in part due to the rise of English youngster Jadon Sancho. He fared better during the past two seasons. He will give the club more exposure to the financially lucrative and growing American football market.
“Christian is the type of player who likes a challenge and likes to experience new things as well,” McKennie, of Schalke, said, as reported by Yahoo! Sports.
“I think he’ll be a great signing for Chelsea. He may not get it right away, he may get in and play you never know, but I think he’ll be helpful for them in any way that they use him.
“I’m excited for him and I know he’s excited to start that next chapter of his career and make an even bigger name for himself.”
