Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has advised footballers to join the Blues over Arsenal if they want to win major trophies.

Since the inception of the Premier League, both Arsenal and Chelsea have enjoyed major trophy success. However, it is the Blues who have arguably been the more successful of the two London giants. The Gunners under Arsene Wenger were a major force to be reckoned with as they stormed to the Premier League title famously without losing a game during the 2003-04 season. However, they underwent a trophy drought between 2005-2014 and have won three FA Cups since.

Chelsea are currently in a difficult position as a club and arguably in one of their most difficult positions since Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003. They are currently in sixth position in the league standings and are on course to fail to secure Champions League qualification for a second successive season.  If the club fail to secure entry into the Champions League next season, they could face a difficult time to secure top talents.

They will have to spend heavily next summer as it looks like they will have to secure a replacement for Eden Hazard who has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid. With Olivier Giroud looking set to depart upon the expiration of his contract, it also looks like they will have to bring in a new striker.

A new centre-back may also be needed considering that David Luiz is now older and tends to be consistent and teh future of Andreas Christensen is uncertain.

Cole advises players to join the Blues over Arsenal if they want to join trophies. He believes that the attitude within Chelsea is more suited for winning trophies.

As quoted by Goal, he said:”Because the expectation is that they [Chelsea] have always got to be there, which Chelsea have been for the last 20 years, it becomes a crisis quicker than it does at Arsenal.

“With Arsenal, they’re probably not going to win anything, they’re in a 10-year transitional period. Chelsea demand to win things. If you’re a player, you’d much rather move to Chelsea than Arsenal, there’s a better quality of player there and you’ve got more chance of winning things.”
