Tottenham and England star Dele Alli has revealed why he thinks that Alvaro Morata is a “nice guy”.
Morata is currently experiencing a difficult time in his career, struggling to find the back of the net consistently for Chelsea. He arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer and was expected to act as a direct replacement to Diego Costa. However, he struggled to replicate the heroics of Costa as he went on to score just 11 Premier League goals as the Blues finished the season in a disappointing fifth position.
Morata has once again struggled for form this season and Maurizio Sarri has not hesitated to bench both the Spaniard as well as second-choice striker Olivier Giroud in recent games. The Italian tactician has instead resorted to using the inspirational Eden Hazard in the false nine role. Morata should ideally push for a move away from Stamford Bridge. It is now quite clear that he is not suited to playing for the West London giants. He is still a talented player and may be able to thrive in other conditions.
Now, Alli has revealed that Morata is a nice guy and spoke about an interaction which he had with the former Real Madrid and Juventus striker. Following Chelsea’s 2-1 league victory last season against Spurs at Wembley Stadium, Morata actually approached Alli and asked to swap shirts.
Alli told BT Sport, as reported by The Sun: “I always get surprised by a player who you think is a very good player and then after the game they came up to you and ask can I have your shirt. It is always a bit of shock. I think that can change your perspective of that person – it shows you how humble they are.
“I think the biggest one that surprised me was Alvaro Morata from Chelsea because of the rivalry between Tottenham and Chelsea. I think he even posted it on his Instagram after so it just shows what a nice guy he is.”
