Chelsea will be looking for recruits at the end of the season as they will need to rebuild on what has been a disastrous campaign, and the Blues would do worse than to turn their attention to Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld.

The centre-back’s future at Spurs has been thrown into doubt in recent weeks as he continues to refuse to sign a new deal at the club amidst fears they will not meet his wage demands, thought to be around £150,000 a week.

The news has alerted several of Europe’s biggest clubs, with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United to lead the chase to land the Belgium international. However, the Blues should also throw their name into the mix.

A move is good for everybody

A move to Stamford Bridge could be both good for the player and the club, with the 29-year-old seemingly unhappy at the White Hart Lane outfit and Mauricio Pochettino ready to let him leave. Should the chance to move to west London become a possibility for Alderweireld, he would not have to move from his current home in the capital and would not have to risk upsetting his current arrangements with his family.

The transfer for Chelsea would also make sense as the player has a proven record in defence whilst appearing in the Premier League, having featured for Southampton before moving to Spurs, whilst they would also add someone who can help bring Andreas Christensen through the ranks.

The move would bolster the defence for the Blues and would put them in a better position to challenge the two Manchester clubs in next season’s competition and with a fee of around £44million being reported, Chelsea should waste no time in bringing another Belgium international to Stamford Bridge.
