Alvaro Morata isn’t having the best season by anyone’s standards and his on-field struggles are being matched off the pitch as his teammates have said that he whinges far too much.
The Spaniard made a great start to life in the Premier League with six goals in his first games, but he’s now on a run of ten matches without one and is being considered as one of the summer’s worst signings. It is being reported that he is putting his poor form down to everything other than his own performances.
Referees, opposition players and his fitness are the main excuses and this has meant his new teammates see the former Real Madrid man as a “whinger”. There are endless examples of foreign players who tend to ‘sulk’ when things aren’t necessarily going their way and Morata needs to make sure he doesn’t fall into that category with the remainder of the domestic season being vital.
Chelsea fell out of the Champions League positions with their 2-1 loss against Manchester United on Sunday after Tottenham managed to snatch a late winner away at Crystal Palace. This leaves Antonio Conte with a lot to do between now and May and he needs all of his players to have the correct mindset in their fight for the top four.
They face Manchester City away in their next Premier League game and they need to take at least a point from the Etihad to stay in the hunt, especially with an away trip to Barcelona in two weeks’ time in their last 16 second-leg.
They will need their Spanish forward to be fit and firing for both of these fixtures if he is chosen to lead the line and he must put any negative thoughts behind him to ensure he can provide the best possible contribution for his team, who are undoubtedly the underdogs in both mentioned matches.
