Chelsea target Alejandro Garnacho has opened up about his future at Manchester United. The young Argentine winger has been at the heart of transfer rumours and speculations at Old Trafford, as the Red Devils look to make urgent sales.
United are widely expected to set up a revolving door outside Carrington this summer. Several players could be on their way out, including academy graduate Marcus Rashford, who is now on loan at Aston Villa. Selling players that graduate from the academy will give the club pure profit on their books, which is why Garnacho could be sold.
He has struggled to make any quality impact under Ruben Amorim this season. The United head coach uses a 3-4-2-1 wing-back formation that has left wingers like Garnacho unable to fit in accurately. The 20-year-old, however, has scored six Premier League goals this season, showing that there is still some talent in there.
When asked about a potential exit, though, Alejandro Garnacho made it clear that he did not want to leave Manchester United. The winger, who Chelsea have been monitoring, explained in his first-ever press conference for the club:
“As a footballer, you are always going to listen and hear some rumours about the future. But I have a contract here until 2028 so I’m happy here.”
What does this mean for Chelsea? The Blues have had a continued interest in Garnacho, who was nearly sold to Napoli during the winter transfer window. The Italian outfit are looking for a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and they turned to Old Trafford for answers.
However, despite putting in a bid for Garnacho, the deal fell through. They had offered an initial £40 million, but they were unable to agree terms with the young winger. The case might be different for the Blues, though, especially if personal terms are discussed. However, Manchester United might not want to sell him to a Premier League rival.
Former Chief Scout Reveals Chelsea’s Interest in Garnacho Remains
Manchester United’s former chief scout Mick Brown has revealed that Chelsea have not lost interest in Alejandro Garnacho. A bid has not yet been made for the winger, but Brown, who is quite connected at Old Trafford, thinks a summer move is in the works.
He said to Football Insider:
“Chelsea’s interest hasn’t gone away. They wanted him in January and they’re still looking to sign a new winger…”
However, he raised the problem of Garnacho’s potential playing time at Stamford Bridge, adding:
“The problem is, you don’t know if Garnacho would come in and be a regular in that team, because they’ve got so many options out wide. He will want to play regularly – but look at what’s happened to Jadon Sancho there…”
