Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo has just gone on the record to talk about Chelsea legend Eden Hazard. The Cameroon international revealed that the former Belgian winger was his football idol, pointing to his dynamic display for Chelsea as an inspiration.

Speaking in an interview with ObiOne Podcast by former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, Mbeumo explained:

“My Football idol growing up was Eden Hazard, when you watched him with your eyes you knew something would happen, I wanted to be like him.”

Hazard’s tenure at Chelsea was filled with eye-popping dribbles, opportunistic strikes, and an award-laden period that included him in the Premier League’s best. In 352 games for the Blues, he scored 110 goals and provided 85 assists.

He led them to two Premier League trophies, two Europa League titles, and more. Hazard formally retired in October 2023 at the age of 32 after an injury-troubled spell at Real Madrid. However, he easily remains one of the best players in Stamford Bridge history.

What Others Said About Chelsea Legend Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard’s tenure at Chelsea will be mostly associated with one of the most thrilling Premier League playing careers. His ability and flair did not just deliver cups to Stamford Bridge, but also gave him respect from his teammates and others.

Ex-Chelsea captain John Terry once compared Hazard to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on Sky Sports 1:

“In those games, when you are looking for a bit of extra, a bit of magic from someone, he is the one who steps up and manages to create something. He is up there with the (Lionel) Messi’s and (Cristiano) Ronaldo’s…”

All that was said was not said in a positive light, though. John Obi Mikel criticized Hazard’s carefree approach to training, calling him “the laziest footballer I have seen in my life.” However, Mikel admitted:

“But then, come the weekend, he would produce it and be Man of the Match.”
