Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has spoken about the significance of the Blues’ remaining three Premier League games this season. He has labelled them as “big games”, as they look to secure a spot in the Champions League for next season.
Currently, the Blues sit in fifth place on the league table. They’ve been buoyed up in recent weeks, thanks to a newfound run of form. They haven’t lost a single game since Arsenal beat them 1-0 back in March. They’ve also won three league games in a row, notably beating champions Liverpool 3-1 last weekend.
Despite this exciting form, they need to take a win home when they visit Newcastle United this Sunday (May 11). The Blues could be overtaken by Nottingham Forest, who are in sixth place, with just two points separating them. Speaking ahead of facing the Magpies, Enzo Maresca said in his press conference:
“It’s a big one, it’s a huge one. United will be a big one, Forest will be a big one. Now we have three more games, all of them are going to be big games.
“For sure, Sunday is a chance to start in the right way. We are in a good run, in a good mood and hopefully we can play a good game and win the game.”
Chelsea Have Big Games Ahead of Them
Looking ahead, Chelsea will take on Manchester United at Stamford Bridge next weekend (May 16). Then, they will end the Premier League season with a trip to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest.
Both games will be a task for Enzo Maresca and his lads. While the Red Devils have been abysmal in the league this season, they remain capable of securing an upset over the Blues. They have reached the Europa League final, and could hurt Chelsea if given the opportunity.
Nottingham Forest will be seen as the bigger threat, though. Nuno Espirito Santo has led his side to wins against clubs like Liverpool, and they are in the hunt for a top-five spot. The Blues will need to be in full form to secure all available points in these upcoming games.
