Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk still remains in limbo, waiting for the doping investigation, which commenced in late 2024. The Ukrainian international has been absent from action since November, following a positive test for the substance meldonium.
This happened while on international duty, which provoked a provisional suspension. Since the inception of this incident, Mudryk has been denying any wrongdoing and has strongly maintained his position that he did not knowingly consume any substance that was forbidden.
Strange methods have even been used by his team of attorneys to corroborate his innocence, including organization of a lie detector test, which he passed. This was revealed by Shakhtar Donetsk chief executive Sergey Palkin, who explained the matter to GIVEMESPORT:
“He doesn’t understand how it could have happened. He has no clue. No idea at all… Mudryk has been clear, it’s not his fault that he tested positive. We now need to find out how this has happened, and who did this. His lawyers are trying to find out. There are still no results from the B-sample, so that remains open.”
A final decision will be pending the public results of the secondary analysis of the B-sample. If the B-sample confirms the finding of the first test, then a four-year-long ban could be imposed on Mudryk. This can happen, even if he is exonerated from having committed any fault.
Shakhtar sold Mudryk to Chelsea in a deal that included performance-based clauses. The CEO explained that they would also lose out on €30 million, should the player be unavailable for the remainder of his contract.
Paul Pogba Remains Without a Club, Raising Concerns About Chelsea’s Mudryk
After Juventus terminated his contract in November 2024, Paul Pogba’s entry back to the football stage is still in limbo. After initially handing him a four-year ban in February for elevated testosterone, the ban was successfully appealed.
The Court of Arbitration for Sports found that he had unknowingly consumed a forbidden ingredient in a prescribed supplement, reducing the suspension to 18 months. So, Pogba was free to start training in January 2025 and now can play from March. However, Juve decided not to have him anymore, terminating his contract a year and a half early.
This has raised questions about Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk. The winger has vehemently denied any intent to dope and has passed a lie detector test. However, uncertainty remains regarding both the length and outcome of his suspension, as well as the future of his career.
