Chelsea rang in the changes their most recent match-up with Brighton & Hove Albion. The lineups for the two Premier League rivals were subject to much deliberation, considering they’ve each traded four wins and four losses in their last eight meetings.

As it happened, Enzo Maresca made four changes to the team that had started against Brighton in the FA Cup just a week previously. On that occasion, Albion came out 2-1 winners and were hoping for a repeat of home heroics this time around.

The previous backline figures of Robert Sanchez and Tosin Adarabioyo were replaced by Filip Jorgensen and Levi Colwill, respectively. Up front, Jadon Sancho gave way to Noni Madueke, while Enzo Fernandez returned in midfield. Brighton made just a single change to their winning lineup from the week prior, with Adam Webster coming in for an injured Lewis Dunk.

In the end, the Blues’ change in approach yielded an even worse result than their FA Cup exit. Brighton & Hove Albion secured a memorable 3-0 home win, with a hattrick for Gambian winger Yankuba Minte.

Here’s how the two teams lined up at kickoff:
