Olivier Giroud’s contract with Chelsea is due to expire at the end of the current season and the Frenchman is widely expected to leave the club. The 33-year-old has been restricted to a bit-part role this season and will want to play for a club which can offer him regular game time next season.
The following are three strikers that Chelsea can target to provide Tammy Abraham with competition ahead of next season.
Teemu Pukki
Norwich City are likely to be relegated this season but the Norwegian has proven beyond any reasonable doubt that he is good enough to be playing in the English top-flight. He has managed 11 goals in the Premier League for the Canaries this season from 29 appearances. Due to his pace and physical presence, Pukki posed a problem for many of the Premier League’s defences. If Norwich are relegated, he will likely be available for a bargain price and could be a valuable player to have as a cover and support striker.
Edinson Cavani
The Uruguayan’s current contract with PSG is due to expire at the end of the current season. As things stand, it looks like he will be departing the French giants following seven seasons. The 33-year-old has lethal finishing ability and was perhaps one of the most feared strikers in world football during the past decade. He has however not been at his best this season as he has only scored seven goals in all competitions from 22 games so far. Nonetheless, Cavani will still be in demand by clubs from all across Europe due to his reputation.
Dries Mertens
During his seven years with Napoli, Mertens has transformed into a world-class player. The Belgian international has been linked with many big clubs over the years though nothing ever materialized. At 32-years-old, he could still have one final big career move left. A move to Chelsea could be appealing.
