Billy Gilmour showed Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard that he deserves to be on his system soon. The 18-year-old has been impressive during training sessions and Lampard could not help but notice Gilmour’s attitude.
Lampard saw how hard Gilmour trains and believe that the youngster has a big chance of being a success with the Blues.
The young midfielder made his first senior appearance when they demolished Grimsby Town 7 – 1 in the third round of the Carabao Cup Wednesday night.
Gilmour was named “Revelation of the Tournament” for Scotland Under-21 at last year’s Toulon Tournament. His return to Stamford Bridge last summer, shows how he had improved and Lampard was happy with this.
“Billy was brilliant the other day [against Grimsby Town],” Lampard said.
“I was delighted with the reaction Billy got during the game and that will make him so good. Every training session Billy takes part in he lights it up with energy, quality and angles. He is like an old-fashioned midfield player.”
Lampard further added, “I know modern midfield players do it, he’s constantly making angles, berating people even though he’s a young boy, personality in the way he plays, never scared to receive the ball. ‘He’s got a really big chance.”
Aside from Gilmour, the Chelsea boss is also happy with another Academy graduate. The head coach was talking about how brilliant and brilliant Mason Mount is this season so far. He said that the youngster had a superb start at Stamford Bridge.
He had previously worked with Lampard while he was on loan at Derby County. But Mount stepped up further after he was promoted to the Premier League from the Championship side last season.
He had scored three goals in nine appearances in all competitions so far. His first Premier League goal was at home against Leicester City.
