Frank Lampard reiterated that he wants all of his players to always be on the top of their game if they want to be in his system. Lampard sternly sent this strong warning after dropping Christian Pulisic against Lille in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Lampard said that he needs his players to always improve and strong competition amongst them for a place in the squad is a must. Lampard earned his first win in the UCL after they beat Ligue 1 side, Lille OSC 2-1. Opening goal from Tammy Abraham and the last-minute strike from Willian gave the Blues the very important three points. They are currently sitting in the third-place position with three points.
Pulisic was not included in the squad, and his supporters are a bit shocked to learn about it. The 21-year-old American was snatched from the Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund for £58 million. However, the Chelsea boss did not even name him in the substituted list on Wednesday match.
Pulisic has to fight his place against the likes of Willian, Pedro, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mason Mount. He was only featured sporadically this season. Willian delivered against Lille, giving the Blues the lead with the clock winding down. His timely volley sent the ball into the back of the net. Callum Hudson-Odoi also provided the much-needed penetration and was instrumental in the last goal. Mount is also doing great and has scored for the squad in the Premier League.
Willian was recently mentioned by Barcelona after the Brazilian mentioned he is not signing any new deal with the Blues once his contract runs out next year. Lampard, however, said that Willian is very important in his team. He is happy with how the Brazilian international have contributed against Lille.
