Tammy Abraham is currently doing a fine job leading the line for Chelsea in the Premier League. The Englishman has established himself as a star talent in England’s top-flight. At the rate that he is currently going, he should even be able to make the England squad for the European Championships next year as cover for Harry Kane.
The Blues will need to sign a new striker soon
While Abraham is currently doing a fantastic job as Frank Lampard’s first choice number nine, he lacks real competition at the moment. Michy Batshuayi has failed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge while Olivier Giroud is past his prime and will likely be released by the club once the transfer ban has ended. It is likely that the veteran Frenchman as well as Batshuayi will depart once the ban is over and the Blues must aim to bring in a striker who can provide quality competition as cover for Abraham. The West London giants are reportedly interested in Antoine Griezmann, according to a report which was published by Fox Sports Asia.
Griezmann would be an adept signing by Lampard. He is not really young but at 28-years-old, he is at the peak of his career and has a lot of goals left in him. The French star is good at playing behind the striker, can play on either wing and can also act as a main striker.
The Blues have been playing a decent brand of football so far this season under Lampard when you consider the transfer ban as well as the fact that they were unable to bring in a direct replacement for Eden Hazard. Griezmann is a world-class player and could help to fill the void that was created by the departure of Hazard. The former Atletico Madrid star may have only joined Barcelona during the summer but strange things do happen in football. A below par season could see him depart the Camp Nou in a similar way to how Philippe Coutinho left the Spanish giants during the summer after just over a year.
