Chelsea will undergo many changes once their transfer ban ends. As things stand, they do not have a side which is capable of challenging for major silverware. Once the transfer ban ends, they will aim to build a side which can challenge the best and we will see a lot of departures and new signings.

One of the players whom the West Londoners should aim to part ways with is Marcos Alonso. The Spaniard arrived at the club in 2016 whilst Antonio Conte managed the club. He was largely a success under Conte but has since declined after the Italian left the club during the summer of 2018.

Alonso was strongly linked with a move back to his homeland with Atletico Madrid last summer but in the end, nothing ended up materializing. The Blues were probably hesitant to sell in lieu of their two window transfer ban.

Now is the right time for Chelsea to cash in on the player

Alonso is now 28-years-old and at the peak of his career. His value is only going to decline from now on. Hence, it would make sense for the Blues to sell at the soonest possible moment.

Alonso being sold will open the door to youth players

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard appears to be good in terms of getting the best out of young talent. This has been seen by the manner in which he has managed to unearth Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount so far this season. Two highly-rated youngsters who could get opportunities if Alonso departs Stamford Bridge are Baba Rahman and Jay DaSilva. Rahman boasts 15 Premier League appearances for the Blues but has yet to be given an extended run in the first-team amidst regularly being loaned out.

Another option could be to bring in a new left-back such as Ben Chilwell.
