Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has admitted that he is unsure about whether his club will make any changes to their squad during the January transfer window.
As things stand, the Blues will not be able to make any changes to their squad during the January transfer window. They were slapped with a two window transfer ban earlier this year after having been found guilty of wrongdoing pertaining to the signing of young players. The ban will only end next summer.
“I don’t know, is the answer. I don’t know if we can” Lampard said as reported by Goal.
“It is not in my hands so I wouldn’t want to speculate if we can or can’t.
“At the minute, we can’t. I am just concentrating on what is ahead of us with the squad we have now.
“A club like Chelsea, we will always be looking at ‘can we improve the squad?’
“If there is the potential to bring players in, at the moment I don’t know the answer.”
The Blues have so far exceeded expectations this season
As the Blues were not able to bring in a direct replacement for Eden Hazard who left the club last summer to join Real Madrid, many predicted that they would not finish in the top four this season especially as Lampard was forced to work with a very young side and limited resources. The club are however surpassing expectations so far this season. Their 4-2 win against Burnley in the Premier League during the past weekend leaves them in fourth position on the League standings and four points above fifth place Arsenal.
There is every reason to believe that the Blues can attain a top four finish this season. Should the club finish this season in a top four position, it would be highly impressive and prove without doubt that the West Londoners can challenge for the League title next season if they do make a few tweaks to their side here and there.
Lampard has so far managed to unearth three future stars in Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount. Other exciting prospects to watch out for are Christian Pulisic who bagged a hat-trick against the Clarets this weekend as well as Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi. The Blues are proving to be one of the most exciting teams to watch this season.
