Chelsea’s youngster Tammy Abraham is just three goals away from surpassing Marcus Rasford’s best-ever Premier League goals in a season.
The Blues striker now has seven goals after getting his first PL hat-trick when the Blues beat the Wolves 5-2. His seven goals have come from his last three games, with the 21-year-old striker bagging braces against Norwich and Sheffield United respectively before finding the net thrice against the Wolves.
He is currently tied with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.
Despite playing five games this season, Abraham is already on the course to beat Rashford’s record goal tally. Manchester United’s Rashford has never overcome more than ten goals in a single Premier League season.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believes that Abraham will be selected for the Three Lions Squad for the next set of international in October. Lampard, however, warned Abraham not to rest on his laurels.
“Well the way he’s going, it’s obviously going to put him into that bracket. Without telling Gareth what to do but to score seven goals in three games and be top scorer and to play with the quality he’s playing, he’s got all-round quality.”
“There’s three different types of goals he’s scored which is exactly what you want from Tammy – a messy one, a good header and a fantastic feet and finish goal. He has to sustain it. He has to get even better. He has to be hungry which I know he is. He should never rest on his laurels because there’s more work to be done. That England squad is a few weeks away and if he keeps playing at that level then he’ll have a great chance.”
The win at Molineux saw the Blues going up to sixth spot with their second win for the Premier League season. The Blues will be facing Liverpool this weekend.
