The Wales international, Ethan Ampadu, has undergone a medical ahead of his move to Germany to join the RB Leipzig club on a season-long loan next season.

Reportedly, the versatile 18-year-old had his medical last Friday and is heading to Germany for the Bundesliga side.

The centre-back had one Premier League appearance and 12 for the Blues in all competitions. He was also capped eight times by Wales.

Chelsea’s new boss, Frank Lampard, confirmed that the Blues are planning to send the former Exeter FC prospect out on loan to gain experience and RB Leipzig seemed interested in the services of Ampadu.

Aston Villa, Cardiff City and Swansea were also keen in getting the youngster. However, the German side were given the green light by the Blues and now, Ampadu is likely to move to Leipzig on a season-long loan next season.

Ampadu was not part of the Chelsea squad in Japan for their pre-season tour while his loan move to RB Leipzig was being sorted out.

“Ethan is not here as we’re looking at the possibility of him going on loan for the season,” Lampard explained earlier.

He also said that he tried to sign Ethan on loan while he was the manager of Derby County last season. Frank further said that he is a big fan of the Ampadu but given his limited playing time last season, Chelsea’s new manager believes that Ampadu is better off with other clubs that could give him more time and gain more experience.

“I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year, so I’m a big fan, but with the minutes he played last year, I have to think of the bigger picture and the interests of Ethan and of Chelsea. The idea that he could play a lot of games somewhere is good for him and we haven’t brought him here while that is up in the air.”
