Chelsea legend John Terry believes that the club are doing the right thing by appointing Frank Lampard to manage the club. The 41-year-old Lampard is currently the overwhelming favourite to take charge of the West London club with an official statement now imminent.

As quoted by Eurosport, Terry said: “After the season he has had with Derby and with Chelsea’s transfer ban in place, there is no-one better equipped than Frank to succeed at Chelsea. It is perfect timing for him and the club.

“What made him that player was him that player was his desire to drain every ounce out of his body and that of everyone around him in training. Then, when he was done, he’d go out and practice free-kicks and shooting on his own for another half-hour.”

Maurizio Sarri recently left the Blues in order to take charge of Italian giants Juventus despite having spent just one season in charge of the Stamford Bridge giants. Lampard is expected to bring new energy to the fold. Many including Terry feel that he is the right person to manage the club in light of the two-window transfer ban which was slapped on the club in February after they were found guilty of wrongdoing with regard to the signing of young players.

Lampard will know the in’s and outs of Stamford Bridge having spent thirteen years at the club as a player between 2001-2014. Lampard is also one of the best-liked players in Chelsea history and has a clean image as a person, hence he could bring a positive energy to the club which has never been seen before.

Lampard’s appointment at Chelsea will bring a lot of euphoria to fans of the club but supporters need to be realistic about what the club should achieve next season. It is highly unlikely that Lampard will be able to bring the Premier League title to Stamford Bridge during his first season though he could seriously potentially challenge for a domestic club competition. Realistically, a good target would be a solid top-four finish as well as deep runs in all of the Cup competitions on offer. It should also be expected for him to unearth a few stars from within the youth ranks of the club during the course of next season.
