Ruben Loftus-Cheek and the Chelsea management have come to an agreement with regards to the player’s new contract.
The Blues have agreed to give Loftus-Cheek a new long term contract, which would be timely for Chelsea’s new manager, Frank Lampard. Chelsea are set to announce officially the return of their former talisman this week, this time as head coach of the Blues.
Loftus-Cheek’s new contract is said to run for at least five years and could be worth £90,000 a week more than what he had signed up for three years ago. His previous contract had two more years left to run, but the bosses at Stamford Bridge were determined to hang on with Loftus-Cheek despite that he is recovering from an injury.
He hurt his Achilles tendon and missed the Europa League in Baku. He may not be able to play at the start of the season pending reports of his recovery.
During Maurizio Sarri’s time, Loftus-Cheek scored 10 goals. Only Eden Hazard, Olivier Giroud and Pedro had more goals as compared to Loftus-Cheek last season.
According to reports, incoming head coach, Lampard will make Loftus-Cheek a vital figure in his midfield. Gareth Southgate also said that Loftus-Cheek will also be one of the key players in next year’s Euros.
