Maurizio Sarri, who recently exited Chelsea in order to become manager of Juventus, is aiming to sign Jorginho and Emerson Palmieri from his former employers, according to a report published by The Sun.
Jorginho in particular is a clear favourite of the Italian tactician. The 27-year-old was a key part of the Napoli side which Sarri managed between 2015-18 and the 60-year-old brought him to Stamford Bridge after being appointed to manage the club during the summer of 2018.
Frank Lampard is currently the favourite to succeed Sarri as Chelsea manager. If the Blues legend prefers to deploy N’Golo Kante in the defensive midfield position, it could pave the way for a Jorginho departure. However, the Blues may be hesitant to part ways with players this summer considering their two-window transfer ban. The ban means that they will not be able to sign any new talent this summer or next January and will have to make do with what they currently have and players out on loan if they want to be competitive next season.
Emerson struggled to initially adapt to life at Stamford Bridge but began to work his way into the team towards the end of last season, usurping Marcos Alonso in the club’s pecking order. The former AS Roma star has long been linked with a move to the Bianconeri.
Emerson appears to have not exactly settled into life in England. A move to the Old Lady of Italian football could be something that is appealing to him but just like in the case with Jorginho, the Blues may be hesitant to part ways with him this summer in light of their transfer ban.
This promises to be one of the most interesting periods in Chelsea’s history. They are set to appoint a club legend as manager who will have to be very smart in the way that he manages the club’s resources.
