Chelsea ace Pedro believes that the Premier League has proven itself this season. For a long time, people have stated that the Premier League is the most competitive League in the world. Critics of this view have pointed to the fact that Premier League clubs have struggled to win the Champions League. Prior to this season, the last time that an English club won the Champions League was back in 2012 when Chelsea did so.
However, this season proved that there is certainly substance to the view that the Premier League is the most competitive league in the world. The Champions League final consisted of two English teams in Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, while the Europa League was also played between two English teams in Arsenal and Chelsea.
Something impressive to note is that this season Barcelona were eliminated by an English side in Liverpool, while French giants PSG, who have one of the most expensive lineups in the world, were also eliminated by Manchester United – who, despite having a rich history, are now considered to be a modest English side.
The success of Premier League clubs this season is likely to lead to many of the world’s top talents signing for English sides this summer as they will want to test themselves against the best in the business.
As quoted by The Mirror, Pedro said: “I think the message is clear to the other leagues: the most strong and most competitive league in the world at the moment is the Premier League, for sure.
“It’s good for English teams. It’s a very good thing because every day, every week, you can see that the Premier League is so hard, so competitive. For this reason I think it’s good for England to have four teams in the two European finals.
“It’s a good opportunity for us to win a title and a European trophy. If we win it will make it a good season because we’ll be in the Champions League, we reached the final of the Carabao Cup and if we win this European final then it will be a very good season for us.”
