Chelsea midfielder Jorginho believes that the club have had a good season. The Blues were never really in contention to win the Premier League title this season but did manage to secure a third-place finish, reach the final of the League Cup, which they lost against Manchester City, and win the Europa League.

While this is not one of the most memorable seasons for Chelsea fans, the club cannot really say that manager Maurizio Sarri was a complete failure during his first term at the club. The Italian led the West Londoners to a 4-1 victory against Arsenal in the Europa League final in Baku last Wednesday.

The game is likely to have been midfielder Eden Hazard’s final game for the club and it could also have been Sarri’s last in charge of the Blues. He has been linked with the managerial vacancy at Serie A giants Juventus.

Jorginho is one of Sarri’s favourite players and it remains to see if the midfielder will also join the Old Lady of Italian football should the manager take up a role with them.

Jorginho is a player who has defended his manager, indicating that the season was not bad.

“It’s wonderful to win such an important trophy after a long, tough, difficult season, but I think we deserved it,” he said as quoted by The Express.

“Aside from all the criticism, I think we had a great season. We finished third in the Premier League, reached the Final of the Carabao Cup even if we didn’t win it in the end and won this trophy.

“Criticism is part of the game, but I want to thank everyone who made this long journey to come here and cheer us on. I salute my wife and kids, who unfortunately couldn’t come because of the absolute chaos it took to get here.”
