Maurizio Sarri wants to sign Jorginho for Juventus, according to a report published by the Sun. Jorginho is very clearly a favourite of the 60-year-old, who signed him for the Blues from Napoli during the summer of 2018.
Jorginho is not exactly popular amongst the Chelsea faithful and was largely underwhelming during his first season in England. A major criticism of Sarri while he was at the helm of Chelsea came as a result of his decision to deploy Jorginho in the defensive midfield position ahead of N’Golo Kante.
Nevertheless, many Blues fans will be hoping that the club keeps Jorginho for at least one more season in light of their two-window transfer ban. The club must, however, be smart and sell him. The next manager of the club is likely to put Kante into the defensive midfield position and this means that Jorginho’s game time could be significantly reduced next season if he stays on. This means that if the Blues sell him during the summer of 2020, they could very well stand to earn a reduced fee as what they would get from selling him this summer.
Moreover, a sale of Jorginho at this point could provide more opportunities to the young Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Loftus-Cheek is more than capable of filling in the void that will be left by a Jorginho departure. He also has a bright future ahead of him and could develop into a world-class player in the near future with the right guidance. The Blues must aim to play him as regularly as possible so that he can develop into the best possible player that he can be.
If Loftus-Cheek becomes frustrated with life at Stamford Bridge, he will have many suitors and losing him will be a massive blow for the Blues.
