Chelsea ace Eden Hazard has revealed that he thinks that the Blues are the best club from London. For much of the century, the tag of London’s premier football club has been a debate between Arsenal and Chelsea. During the early 2000s, there was no doubt that it was Arsenal. The Gunners memorably went on to win the Premier League title without losing a game during the 2003/04 campaign.
However, they began to struggle following the departure of Patrick Viera in 2005. After the Gunners claimed the FA Cup in 2005, they would not win a major trophy again until 2014 when they claimed the FA Cup. From then on Chelsea became London’s Premier club as they claimed more silverware between the two London giants.
However, since 2014, the conversation about who is London’s best club has also involved Tottenham Hotspur. Mauricio Pochettino has yet to win a trophy with the Lilywhites but he has arguably made them into one of the most attractive sides in English football. The North Londoners have also finished in the top four of the Premier League standings during the past four consecutive seasons. This is something which the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal have failed to do.
In spite of everything, Hazard is still under the belief that Chelsea are the top team in England.
“We are the best team in London, I have no doubt about that,” said Hazard as reported by Chelsea’s official website.
“The league is so competitive it is hard to be in the top four but we have achieved this, we have worked very hard altogether during the season and we did a great job. We lost some games of course, we could do better, yes, but at the end the target is to be in the top four and we are.
“It has been one of my best seasons in terms of goal contribution but you want to win collective trophies so we can go to Baku and win a trophy, and if we win a trophy and finish in the top four, it is still a great season.”
