Despite his solid performance as Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri’s reign at Stamford Bridge seems to be coming to an end.
According to reports, Chelsea’s big bosses are preparing to terminate the Italian coach’s contract regardless of whether or not he wins the Europa League. They are said to be keen on bringing Frank Lampard in for Sarri. The latter failed to win over the Blues fans despite getting to two cup finals and a third-place finish in the Premier League.
The Chelsea management are looking for some new blood to usher the team into a new era. They may believe that with Lampard in charge of the Blues, the legendary midfielder can bring more to his former club. The former Blues hero has performed solidly at Derby, with his side set to take on Aston Villa in the Championship Playoff Final at Wembley next week.
The big men at the Stamford Bridge were impressed with the way Lampard has carried himself as head coach. They also believe that Lampard could lure other legendary players to the club. Currently, Lampard employs two Chelsea players at Derby on loan, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori. And with a potential transfer ban slapped against the Blues, Chelsea may need a manager capable of bringing in players from their own academy. Former Chelsea player, Petr Cech, was reportedly given a job as one of the technical staff.
For the 60-year-old Sarri, it is not totally bad news. He is being eyed to take over the head coach position at Juventus. The Old Lady recently announced that Massimiliano Allegri will leave Turin this season. Juventus said that they are keen on acquiring either Simone Inzaghi or Sarri as Allegri’s replacement. This news is a welcome development for the Chelsea manager as he is more than happy to return to Italy.
