Chelsea signing Christian Pulisic has said that he did not consider signing for Liverpool.
The Blues signed the American from Borussia Dortmund in January for a fee of £58 million. He was immediately loaned back to Dortmund until the end of the season and will arrive at Stamford Bridge permanently during the summer.
The signing of Pulisic has largely been viewed with mixed emotions by the fans and pundits. The youngster has shown tremendous potential in the Bundesliga and could potentially develop into one of the world’s best players in future years to come. However, he has not been a first-team regular at the Signal Iduna Park this season and has only played 13 times in the German top-flight this season with English starlet Jadon Sancho being preferred over him.
Some skeptics believe that Pulisic was signed by the Blues to attract investment from the United States and was purchased more for business reasons rather than for his actual talent. Prior to joining Chelsea, many expected Pulisic to join Liverpool. He has worked with current Reds boss Jurgen Klopp before while both were affiliated to Dortmund.
However, in rather surprising news, Pulisic has admitted that he actually did not consider signing for the Reds before joining Chelsea. As quoted by Goal, he said: “I have respect for (Jurgen) Klopp and I know him – he was very welcoming to me here – but I was never really thinking about going to Liverpool,” Pulisic said.
“Borussia Dortmund have given me everything. If I work very hard here, I will play, and I love this club.
“I’m happy in the city, I’m just really content with everything here at the moment.”
Will Chelsea’s American dream end up living to expectations or will he end up being another over-hyped flop like Fernando Torres or Danny Drinkwater? Only time will tell.
