The management of Chelsea are reportedly not happy with the way in which manager Maurizio Sarri has handled the Callum Hudson-Odoi situation.
The 18-year-old is one of the most highly-rated young products in England. He has however struggled to earn regular playing time for the Blues this season and has so far played just four times in the Premier League this term. Chelsea do no really have a good reputation in terms of how they treat their academy and youth products. Few few of their youth products have actually gone on to become first-team regulars for the senior side.
In addition to this, Hudson-Odoi has attracted interest from the Bundesliga. The successes that have been enjoyed by fellow English youngsters Jadon Sancho and Ademola Lookman with Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig in respectively in Germany must surely be tempting him to make a move. Sancho also struggled to earn regular game-time when he was at Manchester City but has since developed into one of the best up and coming talents in Europe in Germany. He has also managed to win himself inclusion into the England side due to his displays for Dortmund.
Last month, the Blues turned down a transfer request from Hudson-Odoi amidst reported interest from Bayern Munich in a bid to persuade him to remain at the club for the long-term. The player’s contract is set to expire in 2020 so they will have to try and convince him to stay soon.
The Mirror have however reported that the Blues board are unhappy with the way in which Sarri has handled the player’s situation. Hudson-Odoi was left out of the squad during the 4-0 mauling at the hands of Bournemouth. During the win against Huddersfield, he made a late cameo as a substitute. He was again left out of the squad during the thrashing against Manchester City last weekend.
The way in which Hudson-Odoi is being handled combined with the Blues current concerning form surely cannot be positive signs for the future of Sarri at Stamford Bridge.
