Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho reckons Eden Hazard possesses both talent and personality to ply his trade at Real Madrid.
Hazard has so far refused to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge as he intends to keep his options open in the summer. His current deal with the west London outfit runs until the end of next season and while the 28-year-old winger has repeatedly expressed his happiness at London, he has also maintained his dream of one day playing for Real Madrid.
Last month, the Belgium international declared that he has already reached a decision regarding his long-term future although he insists he would only make it public at the right moment. Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri also weighed in on Hazard’s situation at Stamford Bridge, saying the Blues superstar is free to leave west London if that is what will make him happy.
A two-window transfer ban imposed by FIFA on Chelsea made matters for Hazard more complicated at Stamford Bridge yet Mourinho, who formerly managed Hazard at Chelsea, reckons the Belgium international forward would fit perfectly at Real, another one of the Portuguese’s former clubs.
Having taken on a punditry role since his departure from Manchester United last December, Mourinho thinks Hazard has both the skills and aura to wear the famous white shirt of Los Merengues.
“Does he have the talent to play for Real Madrid? He does. Does he have the personality to put on a ‘super-heavy’ shirt and play in front of the fans at the Bernabeu? Yes, he has the personality,” said the former Chelsea manager.
Since joining from Ligue 1 club Lille in 2012, Hazard has gone on to become one of the best players of Chelsea ever. With 335 appearances in all competitions for the west London club, he has scored 104 goals and has won two Premier League titles and the Europa League.
