Chelsea star N’Golo Kante has revealed that he has no issues playing in his new advanced midfield role under Maurizio Sarri and added that he has, in fact, been deployed in the position before.
The Blues recruited Jorginho during last summer’s transfer window from Napoli. The Italian is a favourite of Blues manager Sarri and will be key to the Sarri-ball style of play the tactician is in the process of infusing within the team.
The presence of Jorginho has led to the former Napoli player occupying the defensive midfield role for the West Londoners. Kante, meanwhile, is now being deployed in a more advanced midfield role. While many fans were against the switch, the 2018 World Cup winner has so far shone in his new role and scored three goals while providing two assists in the league.
Kante made a name for himself as one of the best players in the Premier League during his time with Leicester City during the 2015-16 season, when the Foxes memorably won the title. During this time, he played in a deeper midfield role, shielding the back four and winning the ball back.
He occupied a similar position for the Blues under former manager Antonio Conte and was a key member of the Stamford Bridge giants squad which won the League title during the 2016-17 campaign.
Whilst commenting on his new role, Kante insisted that he is comfortable and has in fact done similar duties in the past. “It is a position I played in back in Caen, so I already knew it a little bit,” The French international is quoted as saying by Goal. “I enjoy playing there.”
Kante is determined to help the Blues win more silverware. He will likely have to be in good form if the club are to attain a top-four finish in the league this season and make a return to the Champions League next term.
