Cesc Fabregas urges the need for Chelsea to take more risks and become more ruthless despite a strong start to the 2018-2019 campaign.
The Blues have made an unbeaten start to the current season, claiming nine victories and two draws in their first eleven matches. Apart from an impressive string of results, the west London club has also received acclaim for their entertaining brand of football under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri, who transformed the side into a very watchable, attacking side.
Yet despite a stunning turn of results and play style, Fabregas, who has started in three of Chelsea’s matches this season, has encouraged his teammates to become more cold-blooded and merciless in order to let their impressive string of results continue. “Sometimes you need to take risks, to be ruthless,” said the Blues star. “You have to fight for your team-mates and for the club.”
Fabregas continued by praising Sarri’s ball-playing approach – something he prefers as he recently stated in an interview – which is a big departure from a more reactive style in the two seasons of Antonio Conte in charge at Stamford Bridge. “My type of football has always been to play with the ball, to have the ball, to create chances, have a forward mentality. Having movement with or without the ball,” continued Fabregas.
The Spaniard also reiterated the need for the west London side to keep their winning form in order to increase their self-belief. “I believe a lot in this team. As long as we are winning, the confidence of the team will be higher and higher. It’s impossible to be perfect but be as close to perfection as possible.”
The Chelsea midfielder will hope to make a fourth start of the campaign when the Blues host former manager Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
