With just over a week left of the transfer window, it is becoming a concern that Chelsea have only made one first-team signing. However, amongst the endless transfer rumours coming out of West London, one that is continuing to gather pace is the one linking them to a move for Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish striker has been repeatedly linked with a big-money transfer away from Bavaria over the last couple of seasons and it looks as though there is finally a team willing to meet the German champions’ valuation. Whether or not the transfer will happen is still up in the air but it is understood that Maurizio Sarri is extremely interested in bringing Lewandowski to Chelsea with a clear lack of a prolific goal scorer last term.
The Blues’ current first-choice number nine doesn’t look completely settled with news of potential suitors wanting to prise Alvaro Morata away from the English capital. AC Milan have been heavily linked but the Italian giants have reportedly been put off by a very steep £62 million price tag which may suggest that the 25-year-old has a future under Sarri.
The boss has said as much himself but expressed the idea that he is only in the business of retaining his key assets if they want to stay when discussing Morata’s future at the club. There have also been some reports that the former Real Madrid forward has been offered, along with a substantial amount of cash, in a deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus which might not be as good a deal as it sounds.
If Chelsea were to secure the signing of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern, it would be an undoubted upgrade on Morata and would send shockwaves throughout the Premier League as well as the rest of Europe. Many people consider the three-time Bundesliga top scorer as the best centre-forward in the world and it would certainly bring a new edge to the Blues attack, especially if Eden Hazard was to feature in the side alongside him.
It would definitely be the kind of signing that Chelsea fans have been dreaming about this summer and would significantly improve their chance of seeing their side lift some more trophies.
