Chelsea forward Erin Cuthbert has stamped her mark on an improved contract with the Women’s Super League champions after signing a new three-year deal.

Cuthbert began her adventure with the Blues in December 2016 after signing from Glasgow City, where she had spent a successful season having won the Scottish Women’s Premier League title, as well as ending the campaign as top goalscorer and Player of the Year.

Since making the switch from Glasgow to the glitz and glamour of London, she has only improved game after game. She has gone on to register 15 goals in 39 appearances for Chelsea. But it was in the last season that Cuthbert made her mark with the club. She contributed 11 goals as the Blues won the league title after going the whole season unbeaten. The club captured the FA Cup trophy as well to complete a domestic double while they also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The forward, who has already featured 15 times for the senior squad of Scotland even before joining the Blues, spoke about his experience in the London club, saying she has had a happy time so far. “I love this club. I’ve enjoyed every minute I’ve been here,” said Cuthbert, who had also struck an unlikely bond with Brazil centre-back David Luiz.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes praised the 20-year-old, saying Cuthbert has displayed maturity despite her tender age. “She has proved that you’re not too young to get into this Chelsea team, provided you have the right work ethic, character, drive and determination,” Hayes said in a statement on the club’s website.

“If she keeps her feet on the ground and continues to work hard, she can go on to achieve anything she wants in the game, because she has got the drive to get to the top.”
