After a fantastic 2018 World Cup, it is becoming more and more likely that Eden Hazard will be signed by Real Madrid before the conclusion of the summer transfer window. While it would be disappointing for Chelsea to lose such a talented footballer, it would leave the FA Cup winners with a handsome amount of money to reinvest.
It is understood that targets are already being drawn up as to who will replace the Belgium star and one of those is young Manchester United winger, Anthony Martial. The former Monaco forward has spent almost three years at Old Trafford but since Jose Mourinho’s arrival, there are reports that he is growing increasingly frustrated at his lack of a starting place.
The signing of Alexis Sanchez in January has made it harder for Martial to impose himself in the mind of his Portuguese boss. This could be one of the main factors behind a potential move as the 22-year-old needs to be playing regular football in order to make the most of the talent he possesses.
Maurizio Sarri has already given out a statement of intent in his new role by securing Jorginho from his former club for £57 million but it looks as though Martial will only be targeted if Hazard departs in the next month. Although, this doesn’t mean that the Blues will necessarily have a chance of signing the Frenchman as the Red Devils will be reluctant to sell him, especially to a Premier League rival.
With what is expected to be a fee of over £150 for Eden Hazard, Chelsea should be able to afford Martial but it is hard to compare the two. Belgium’s World Cup hero is widely considered as one of the best in world football while one of France’s brightest young prospects is currently just that with a long way to go until becoming the finished article.
If Chelsea are forced into selling Hazard this summer, the signing of Anthony Martial would certainly soften the blow to some degree.
