Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger has sent a warning to former Roma teammate Mohamed Salah as the Blues prepare to face off against an in-form Liverpool side in the Premier League on Sunday.
Rudiger knows Salah well from their time together and his knowledge may prove vital if the Blues want to stop the threat of the in-form Egyptian who has established himself as one of the best attackers in world football this season.
Many criticised Liverpool when they forked out £36.9 million to sign Salah last summer; following his previously unsuccessful spell at Stamford Bridge, a lot of supporters doubted he had the qualities needed to succeed in the Premier League.
However, the 25-year-old has proved his doubters wrong in some style, scoring 43 goals this season and helping Liverpool reach the final of the Champions League, where they will play against Real Madrid. Should the Reds emerge victorious in Europe, Salah must surely be considered a serious contender to win the Ballon d’Or award and end the domination of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi over the trophy.
Rudiger has not enjoyed the same amount of success since he moved to Stamford Bridge for £29 million. He is insistent, however, that he is very well prepared to face off against his former colleague.
There is a good chance that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may rest many of his stars for this weekend’s fixture as he will prioritise the Champions League final. However, Salah is likely to start on the day and lead the Reds’ charges.
The German defender told Football Focus: “If I play, it will be a direct duel against Salah. The good thing is, I’m not slow!”
Rudiger also added that he is happy that things are turning out well for Salah. He even admitted that he is surprised by the success which the player has enjoyed this season.
“He’s the most polite guy I have ever met in football. He’s a fantastic person. Of course, you are always a bit surprised but I know his ability, his potential and I knew he would be good for Liverpool.”
