On-loan Chelsea youngster Kenedy has issued an emotional farewell to Newcastle United and promised that he will “never forget” his time with the Magpies.
The 22-year-old joined the Toon Army for the second half of the season in order to gain more experience at the highest level. The Brazil international was impressive during his loan stint and managed to establish himself as an influential member of the Magpies team.
Altogether, he managed to make 13 Premier League starts and scored two goals. He was ineligible to play on the last day of the campaign as Rafa Benitez’s side went on to complete a 3-0 win against his parent side.
The result certainly would have been a bittersweet feeling for Kenedy. He would have been happy to see Newcastle end the season on a high following their frustrations throughout the season. At the same time, it would not have been good to see his parent club, and the team with whom he sees his future, be outclassed.
Kenedy took to Instagram and wrote: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Newcastle United.”
“Thank you to all the players, every single person of the great staff, the coach Rafa Benitez who trusted me and gave me chance to play for this great club, which I very much enjoyed and, of course, to the all fans for the magnificent support. “It was an amazing chapter in my life and I will never forget it. Howay the Toon!”
The Brazilian, who can play as a left-back or a winger, joined Chelsea from Fluminense in 2015. He has managed 27 appearances in all competitions for the Stamford Bridge outfit to date and scored three goals.
Whether or not he has a future at Stamford Bridge will likely depend on the vision of the Chelsea manager for next season. It remains to be seen whether or not Antonio Conte will be in charge of the club beyond this summer, after the Blues finished fifth in the Premier League and failed to qualify for the Champions League.
