Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has admitted that he could move to either Real Madrid or Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

The Argentina international has been in sensational form this season, where he has managed 26 goals all competitions. In the process, he has established himself as one of the most feared strikers in Europe and will surely attract attention from some of the biggest clubs. Since winning the Champions League in 2010, Inter have never really been a major force in Europe and it is easy to see why Icardi would be tempted if more decorated clubs like Madrid and Chelsea come knocking on the door for his signature.

Both Chelsea and Madrid are likely to prioritise signing a new forward this summer. Karim Benzema has struggled with his form for Los Blancos this season and is one of the players within Zinedine Zidane’s squad that will almost certainly be replaced this summer as the club looks to rebuild in order to challenge for the La Liga title next season.

Alvaro Morata has also struggled for consistency at Chelsea since the start of 2018 and it remains to be seen whether the Blues will opt to sell the Spanish international at the end of the season. If they do elect to keep him, they may stil look to bring in a new option. While Olivier Giroud is a decent support, the Frenchman is past the peak of his career and cannot be relied upon to bring trophies to the club.

Icardi joined Inter from Sampdoria in 2013 for £11.7 million and has established himself as a cult-hero-like figure for the club. He still loves his side; however, he has refused to rule out the possibility of leaving.

“Inter have always been my team,” he told Argentinian site Ole. “When I was little, I always chose them on PlayStation. That’s why I enjoy playing here and chose to stay there.

“I can’t predict the future. For this, I enjoy the present and always give my best. Like I told you, I don’t know what the future holds. My present is here. It’s where we have our home, our friends and our life.”
