Chelsea will be looking at finishing their disappointing campaign on a high at the end of the season by hoping to convince Eden Hazard to sign a new bumper deal to fend off interest from Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants have been rumoured to be interested in the Belgium playmaker for a considerable amount of time, but the Blues are reported to be prepared to make significant improvements to his contract to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

Spanish media publication Sport is claiming that Chelsea are ready to make Hazard an offer to increase his wages by almost £100,000 per week to £300,000, making him the highest earner at the club by some distance.

Real Madrid are said to have been contemplating on whether to make a move for the attacker after his mixed performances in recent matches, although that could be down to being played out of position in some of the Blues’ biggest fixtures. It is also believed Los Blancos were not impressed with Hazard’s contributions against Barcelona during the Champions League, where he failed to make much of an impact.

Happy at Stamford Bridge

Hazard, whose current deal does not expire until 2020, has stated his happiness with being at Stamford Bridge and is focused on playing his best for the side and then will focus his efforts on the World Cup in the summer for Belgium.

Should the Blues fail to get him to agree to a new deal, it is believed they will not entertain an offer unless it exceeds £100 million, although the possibility of not playing Champions League football next season could be a dealbreaker.

Chelsea face West Ham United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in a game that Antonio Conte’s side must win if they do want a spot in next year’s European competition. However, they must also rely on other results to go their way, as they sit eight points behind Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League table after last weekend’s defeat.
