Chelsea look set to undergo a retro revival next season, with new leaks seeming to confirm rumours that red will return as the third colour of their home strip for only the third time since the 1990s.
A couple of weeks ago, Footy Headlines posted close-up images purporting to show the Blues’ 2018/19 home shirt complete with tapered red bands; today, the site unveiled a look at the full shirt and seemingly confirming the authenticity of its earlier leak. The shirt will be the Blues’ second home design to be created by Nike since they took over the rights from Adidas last term, and it seems they are intent on putting the relative “safety” of their first outing behind them.
Reportedly based on the latest generation of the clothing giant’s Vapor line of jersey, the shirt is made up of the same “rush blue” as the current season’s offering with white branding, although the addition of the horizontal red stripes, alongside similar white ones, means the kit is possibly the most drastic change Blues supporters have seen for a number of years.
According to FH, the shirt will be accompanied with blue shorts and white socks; the socks complete with both red and white trim. Chelsea’s 2018/19 away shirt, meanwhile, is believed to have yellow as its primary colour – the first time the Blues have had a yellow away strip since the 2014/15 season.
