Former Blues’ striker Fernando Torres has praised Alvaro Morata’s strong start to life at Stamford Bridge, proclaiming the Chelsea forward to be “one of the best” in the world.

Many questions were raised when the Blues chose the £70-million Morata to replace the outgoing Diego Costa, considering the fact that the Spanish international had never managed to really establish himself as a first-team regular at Real Madrid. The 24-year-old had to settle for irregular appearances at Los Blancos last season and went on to score 20 goals from 43 appearances.

However, Morata has got off to a flying start at Stamford Bridge and has six goals in the Premier League from just six games to his name so far. Judging by the way he has played so far, Morata could prove to be an excellent buy for Chelsea; he could go on to challenge the likes of Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku for the Premier League Golden Boot award this season.

Former Chelsea and Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, who has 85 Premier League goals to his name, certainly feels that the Blues have made a sound investment in his compatriot. He is quoted by the Metro as saying: “Chelsea have one of the best strikers in Europe – and I am sure he is going to win trophies with them… The Chelsea games [against Torres’ Atletico] will not be easy – there is a reason they are champions of England.”

The Atletico Madrid man added: “I spoke with Morata before he joined Chelsea and told him I would be always on the phone if he needed any advice or if I could help him.”
