Chelsea kept their hopes of securing a place in next season’s Champions League well and truly alive as they beat West Ham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s 100% start to the season juddered to a halt with a dull 0-0 draw away at West Ham on Sunday afternoon. The Blues enjoyed 72% of the possession and rained 17 shots down on their opponents’ goal, but they ultimately could not find the breakthrough.
Chelsea went to the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon hoping to extend their 100% league record but for all their possession, they couldn’t break through the strong West Ham defence. The Blues actually could’ve gone behind a couple of times in East London but the game ended goalless.

However, as Chelsea surrendered yet another one-goal lead, they had to settle for a rather stale 1-1 draw with West Ham. Javier Hernandez’s ninth goal against the Blues cancelled out Cesar Azpilicueta’s scruffy opener.
Goals win football matches and, however cliché that old adage is, we can’t run away from it. Whether Andy Carroll can be a reliable source of goals for Chelsea, however, is another thing altogether.
