Despite stating that he wants to return to England with a ‘winning feeling‘ following an exceptional showing at the World Cup, there is still a possibility that Thibaut Courtois could leave Chelsea this summer.

For Chelsea fans, this will hurt, the Belgian is one of the best keepers in the world and is at the top of his game. However, with just one year remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge, the 26-year-old could be tempted to move to a club like Real Madrid, especially as his children continue to reside in the Spanish capital. He also has just one year remaining on his deal with the Blues, meaning that now is the perfect time for Madrid to make a move.

Los Blancos are looking for a replacement for Keylor Navas and as it is very unlikely they will succeed in their pursuit of David de Gea, the chances are high that they will come knocking on the door for Courtois.

Below are three keepers whom Chelsea could consider buying should Courtois depart:

1. Jordan Pickford

Prior to the start of the World Cup, many had questioned whether Gareth Southgate was correct to select Pickford as England’s first-choice goalkeeper, citing the Everton man’s lack of experience. However, the 24-year-old has so far exceeded expectations in Russia through solid performances and also starred as England defeated Colombia in the round of 16 via a penalty shoot-out.

Pickford is fast becoming one of the best keepers in Europe. As Everton are a relatively modest club, he may be tempted by the allure of Chelsea as the Blues could offer him a better chance in terms of challenging for the Premier League title and major trophies.

2. Jack Butland

Admittedly, Butland did ship in a lot of goals last season. However, in his defence, he has proven himself to be a capable shot-stopper in the Premier League throughout the years and was playing for a rather woeful Stoke City side, who were ultimately relegated from the Premier League. He will be available on the cheap and is almost certain to leave the Potters before the start of next season.

At just 25, Butland still has his best years ahead of him. The only concern about signing him would be due to the fact that he is injury prone.

3. Alisson

Roma’s Alisson is widely regarded as being one of the best keepers in the world.  The 25-year-old is so good that he has managed to establish himself as Brazil’s first choice goalkeeper ahead of Manchester City star Ederson.

A goalkeeper of Alisson’s calibre would be the perfect candidate to sign if Courtois does depart. However, it may be difficult to sign him. Roma will naturally be reluctant to part ways with their prized asset. In addition to this, the Blues may also face strong competition. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has also reportedly earmarked Alisson as his ideal candidate to take over from Loris Karius as the Reds’ first choice.
